[ARCHIVED] Record heat causes water discoloration

Middleton Town Seal (002)

The record heat wave and high temperatures have affected the water in our reservoirs.  The main result of this is that customers may be seeing a yellowish discoloration of the water, which comes from the natural iron and manganese.

Customers may also notice a difference in the taste and odor of the water.  Despite the appearance of the water, it remains safe to drink and we are regularly testing and adjusting the treatment process to keep the water safe to drink.

Disinfection and treatment to eliminate all bacteria remain our top priority and the taste, color, and odor problems customers may be seeing, while aesthetically displeasing, are not a health risk.

Water treated at the WTP meets or exceeds all State and Federal drinking water regulations. We are working to correct these issues and we expect improvements in the coming days.

If residents have concerns about doing laundry, especially whites, the Town has iron-out tablets that will prevent any staining to clothes and other linens. Residents will be able to collect these tablets at Danvers Town Hall, the Danvers DPW Garage, and Two Burroughs Street, Danvers.
