Sergeant Edward Marc Couture

On July 10, 1997, Officer Edward M. Couture, 49 years old and a 22-year veteran of the Middleton Police Department, was assigned to a traffic detail on Boston Street between the hours or 0800 and 1600. At approximately 1500 hours, while on duty in the vicinity of 140 Boston Street, Officer Couture was struck by a passing motor vehicle. He was rushed to Atlantic Care Medical Center in Lynn where he was pronounced DOA Cause of death was multiple blunt traumatic injuries. Officer Couture is survived by his wife Ann and Two daughters, Ashlyn, age 11 and Brianna, age 9.

On July 11, 1997 the Middleton Board of Selectmen promoted Officer Couture posthumously to Sergeant.

Officer Paul Joseph Peters

On February 19, 1984, Officer Paul J. Peters, 49 years old and a 11 year veteran of the Middleton Police Department, was called back to the station for a special assignment. As he traveled West on Route 114 in his own motor vehicle, in the vicinity of 56 North Main Street he crossed the roadway, drove up an embankment and overturned. He was rushed to Hunt memorial Hospital in Danvers where he was pronounced DOA. Cause of death was a heart attack. Officer Peters is survived by his wife Alice, a son, Eugene age 21, and 2 daughters, Rose, age 19 and Dawn, age 16.
