Zoning Bylaw Review

Estimated timeline: January 2025 – May 2026

The Town of Middleton seeks to modernize its zoning bylaws through a comprehensive review and revision process.

Over the course of the project, the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Planning Director, Building Commissioner, and an experienced zoning consultant will review each section of the zoning code and make recommendations to simplify, clarify, organize, or amend the code.

Recommendations will consider current laws and regulations as well as Town priorities from existing plans and prior zoning audits. Draft recommendations will be presented at public meetings for public input and feedback.

Take a look at the January 2025 Zoning for Middleton Presentation for additional details on how and why we periodically review and update the zoning code.

Completing a comprehensive review of the zoning code allows us to streamline the approval process and integrate changes efficiently. However, while comprehensive in that the whole code will be considered, the focus of this zoning review is on technical and stylistic elements. It is unlikely that this review will make recommendations regarding the Middleton zoning map or use regulations.

Upcoming Meetings

The Planning Board is required to hold a public hearing on all proposed changes. Interim public meetings on specific topics will be held as needed and advertised on this project page.

The first public forum on this project is scheduled for September 30, 2025 at 6:30pm at the Flint Public Library. The goal of this meeting is to present the initial findings of the zoning audit. The project team will highlight areas of interest and ask for feedback on areas of concern.
